Rushan Octanus is the son of an adventuring Sahugin were-octopus couple in a small merfolk village. The villagers, who owed a debt to Rushan's parents, raised Rushan while his parents were off on their adventures.
When his parents disappeared one day and no word of them was to be found, Ruschan resolved to set out and find them. He has been trained as a fighter in hopes of someday following in their footsteps, and their recent disappearance is what made him set out into the surface world, which he has previously only known from the tales his parents and the villagers have told him.
He hopes to become a cleric of the many armed diety of storms he follows, to become an adventurer who helps and inspires people, and to find out what happened to his parents. He is nervous around land people, as his first few interactions with them went quite poorly (people don't take kindly to sahugins, especially ones that carry six huge swords) , and so has stowed away on the ship. He is on the ship because he remembers that they rode a ship of the same name in the past.
